The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show
Aside from the MB Fashion Week, the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show (VSFS) is one of the most publicized fashion events in media today. The VSFS for women is how the Super Bowl is for men; it's a annual tradition to gather up your girlfriends and watch (and maybe cry over) the beautiful models walking down that glittery catwalk.
While watching the show with my friend, we were utterly distraught at how perfect these 'Angels' looked and questioned why we would never look like these women. On Twitter, there were mass tweets along the lines of "There goes my self-esteem" or "They are perfect, why can't I be them?" or "Looks like I'm not eating". Of course, most of these tweets are joking but there is the subtle hint of truth in regards to how these girls are influenced by the media and models.
The female demographic often forget that an extremely small percentage of women are models. Why let this small percentage ruin your body image when you can work just as hard to achieve your personal fitness goals? Most women also forget that not everyone is going to have the same body structure and composition to look like their role model. What if the hips are too big or the bust area is too small? Does this make a person ugly? Most definitely not. Everyone should be comfortable in their own skin and if she wants to see improvement, then she can work for it. Despite the effortlessness these Angels may exhibit, they all had to work to look like 'perfection' because the runway isn't going to photoshop them as they walk down the catwalk. These Victoria's Secret models train hard and eat a strict (but healthy) diet to maintain their image, what would you do to achieve yours?
